Our experience as a family of 8 adults and 3 children was more than we could have ever expected from Hill farm .
As a returned guest ( after Mick and Julie acquired hill farm ) was a completely Remarkable transformation, both in the welcome from both Mick and Julie , the cleanliness of the cottages was immaculate, the regular chats that Mick and Julie gladly engage in whenever they see their welcomed guests at any time of day or evening! Not only is this the perfect Location and accommodation for families with children of all ages ( from 1 -18 years old ) with the pool and a games room That will most definitely cater for all Ages and in my experience adults too with the pool table , table football, table tennis
And far more for the little people and again it is immaculately clean and spotless.
The invitation to feed the animals with mick and Julie is a must for all ages ( from
Sheep to goats to chickens and ducks , rabbits, Guinea pigs) the list is endless – it is a very welcoming morning activity for Children and grown ups! Plus they sell fresh eggs which contributes well to any brunch!! This location offers the luxury of being Remote and amazing woodland walks to being accessible to the treasures of both Devon and Cornwall ( none of these are more than 40 mins away ) Bude, Croyde, Clovelly, basically anywhere on the north Devon coast !

Mick and Julie also give you the most comprehensive guide on their handbook to the highlights in the area and the best places to eat. Including the best Chinese I’ve ever had !!!

We will most definitely be visiting again!

A five star review for both location , accommodation and hosts  – mick and Julie !

Friendly, fun and welcoming

This is the 4th time we have been back, and we all still love it. Kids (now 10 and 8) still enjoy feeding the animals, the pool and games room. Julie and Mick are very welcoming hosts and their love of animals is infectious. Would thoroughly recommend.

Perfect week at the farm June 2022

A perfect week at Hill Farm with all you could ask for in a beautiful furnished cottage. There are 5 cottages in total and we stayed in the 2 bedroomed Landcross.
Hosts Mike and Julie are wonderful hosts and certainly make you feel welcome. The swimming pool is certainly an excellent feature to have with the bonus that you get to book by the hour so you can be assured that you have your own space to swim/play!
Animal feeding is the morning routine if you have young children (although let’s face it you are never too old to feed the chickens are you !). You may even get to meet a few famous ones named after rock stars!
You do not have to be a family with kids to stay here, if you chose to you wouldn’t even know they had animals as they are away from the cottages. Great Torrington is a 20m walk away as is the Tarka Trail and the Puffing Billy is certainly a welcoming watering hole. Local pub in Weare Giffard (the Cyder Press) is a great local but beware as it’s a 2 mile climb back.
Just one thing to be wary of…Micks sheep jokes. They are truly awful ! 😂

Fabulous Holiday Ticks Every BoxJuly 2022 Missfusspot68

This gem of a find ticked a lot of boxes. An immaculately clean cottage (we stayed in Pebble Ridge) refurbished, modern and with everything you could need. Dog friendly which was essential with our first holiday with our rescue and an indoor pool with exclusive use, ideal for our 3 kids (all with special needs).

There is also an amazing indoor play room with a huge selection of toys and equipment if you have younger children. The pool was lovely and warm and there were floats/jackets and pool toys all free to borrow.

Mick and Julie were wonderful hosts, so patient and chatty and informative especially at the animal feed mornings, which were just wonderful. We could feed and interact with the animals who were super cute.

Really beautiful location, the surrounding areas are breath taking whilst the nearest towns and shops are a reasonable drive away. We went to the dog friendly beach at Westward Ho, Dartington Factory (also took the dog). We had a good breakfast at the Puffing Billy which is an amazing place set in a converted railway station. We had one of our best meals at the Hunters Inn in Newton Tracey, where our dog was allowed inside at the table with us. Also good food at the Union Inn in Stibb Cross, where we ate outside in the garden with the dog. The Landlord here was also very welcoming and friendly.

Overall, I would thoroughly recommend this amazing find. It is a really unusual little group of cottages in the most beautiful setting and with fabulous hosts. Mick and Julie have thought of everything and that makes this place perfect whatever your age.

Amazing place August 2022 – Natalie S

Stayed here with my three children for a week in August , we stayed in Landcross cottage which was lovely. The small touches throughout the cottage coupled with the warm friendly environment created by Mick and Julie made this holiday perfect . My children thoroughly enjoyed feeding the animals , swimming in the pool and most of playing in the well stocked games room. The views from the top field are fantastic especially at sunset, you can do as much or as a little as you like which is the beauty of this place . Mick and Julie really have created the most wonderful environment in the perfect setting we will definitely be back for more.

Our favourite holiday location, just wonderful!

Can’t praise Hill Farm enough as a holiday venue. We have visited many times and every time we arrive we immediately feel relaxed. Mick and Julie are the most fantastic hosts, they really do try to make sure every guest has a fantastic holiday. Daily animal feeding is always fun for the children. The pool is brilliant and ideal in wet weather along with the games room.
The cottages are always exceptionally clean and have really benefitted from the recent first class makeovers with lovely kitchens and bathrooms. We always sleep really well as the beds are so comfortable!
Great Torrington itself is a brilliant location. There’s loads to do locally and lots of nice pubs in the area for meals out. The beaches are a short drive and other attractions are very quick and easy to get to. 100% recommend Hill Farm Cottages. We can’t wait to go back!
